Amazon FBA Prep for Wet Wipes: Expiry Dates, Labels and Cartons

Yes. Amazon’s FBA expiration-date policy says any product with a shelf life, or that loses effectiveness over time, is subject to expiration even if no date is printed. Its examples include products with a period-after-opening symbol, cleaning products such as disinfectant wipes, and topical products for human or animal use such as cosmetics (Amazon Seller Central). Baby wipes, makeup wipes and cleaning wipes all fit those descriptions.

Amazon’s requirement is that, at check-in, products have enough remaining shelf life to be used in full plus an additional 90 days. At the time of writing, its guidance table listed long minimum remaining shelf lives for cleaning supplies and for personal care and beauty products (900 days for both categories). • Format: MM-YYYY or MM-DD-YYYY for products other than medical devices.
• Visibility: if units are poly-bagged or bubble-wrapped, the date must also appear on a label on the outside of the prep.
• One date per ASIN per box: units of the same ASIN with different expiration dates go in separate boxes.
• Do not cover original information such as ingredients, net contents or warnings.
• Barcode: Amazon states that expiration-dated FBA inventory also needs an Amazon barcode label, with an exemption for authorised resellers of ASINs enrolled in Brand Registry.

Amazon’s FBA shipment checklist says boxes containing multiple standard-size items must not exceed 25 inches on any side or 50 lb in weight (Amazon). Wet wipes are heavy for their size because they are mostly liquid, so export cartons sized for sea freight may be too heavy for direct FBA inbound.

It depends on the formula. Amazon’s dangerous goods documentation asks for a Safety Data Sheet, and an exemption sheet only when the product contains no potentially harmful chemicals, giving alcohol as an example (Amazon). Alcohol-based and many disinfecting wipes go through hazmat review; water-based baby wipes are usually simpler but can still be asked for documents. • Strong closures: flip-top lids or high-tack resealable stickers survive handling better.
• Seal integrity: ask for seal-strength and leak checks on finished packs (see quality testing).
• Multipack wrap: an overwrap keeps packs together and protects lids.
• Drop and compression: ask the factory to drop-test filled cartons if you expect parcel handling.
